Tipton Challenges Salazar to 29 Debates

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

Republican Scott Tipton, who attempting to unseat Democrat John Salazar in CD-3, is offering a challenge that is probably a little unrealistic to expect a sitting congressman to agree to in such a short period of time. We’re not making excuses for Salazar?- we’re making excuses for anyone who is a sitting congressman. Asking them to attend 29 debates while they’re still in session is a bit much.

Anyway, click below for the full press release…

Third Congressional District Candidate Scott Tipton sent a letter to current Rep. John Salazar Thursday morning asking him to agree to a series of 29 debates over the next 5 months, holding one in each of the 3rd Congressional District?s 29 counties.?

?

In the letter, Tipton stated,? As rural Coloradans, I think we can both agree that the folks of Manassa, Cortez, and Walden should have the same opportunity to hear our views as the folks in larger communities such as Pueblo and Grand Junction.? Tipton continued saying, ?With over five months remaining, we have a chance to raise the level of discourse in our race to a level that people in the 3rd Congressional District deserve.??

?

?Debates between political candidates are an important part of our political system dating back to the beginning of this country. I can?t imagine a reason why John wouldn?t want to make the effort to reach out to the citizens of the 3rd District. The issues facing us today are no less important than when Lincoln and Douglas engaged in their famous debates during the 1858 campaign. I think we owe it to the voters and I look forward to hearing John?s commitment so we can go about scheduling these events,? added Tipton.
